Stacked Sketchbooks

Draw a neat stack of sketchbooks with spiral bindings.

beginner13–26 minutesrealistic

Practice focus

Keep four thin book boxes in a stable stack while distinguishing cover thickness, page blocks, spirals, and the hanging ribbon

Construction sequence

Build what matters first

  1. 1

Draw the bottom sketchbook as a shallow box in perspective, then stack three thinner boxes with small alternating offsets.

  2. 2

Separate each colored cover from its cream page block using a narrow parallel edge.

  3. 3

Place the two spiral bindings along their book spines, shrinking and aligning the loops with the receding edge.

  4. 4

Break the page edges into a few grouped lines and hang the ribbon bookmark from the bottom-right book.

  5. 5

Add contact shadows between volumes so each sketchbook feels supported by the one below.

Make it easier

Reduce the decisions

Stack two closed books as simple shallow boxes and omit spirals, page lines, and ribbon.

Make it harder

Transfer the structure

Keep all four offsets, construct the spiral loops in perspective, and render compressed shadows between individual page blocks.

Difficulty rubric

Why this is beginner

The label is an editorial band, not a precise score. It considers the factors below; your feedback is stored locally and does not silently change the rating.

  • repeated shallow-box perspective
  • offset stack balance
  • small spiral rhythm
  • thin contact shadows
