Practice focus

Relate the forehead, nose, lips, chin, ear, skull, and neck along one clean profile construction

Construction sequence

Build what matters first

  1. 1

Draw the cranial mass as an oval and attach a tapered jaw, then mark the brow, nose base, mouth, and chin heights.

  2. 2

Carve one continuous profile from forehead through nose, lips, and chin, checking each projection against the face plane.

  3. 3

Place the visible eye beneath the brow and the ear between brow and nose-base levels.

  4. 4

Sweep the jaw into the neck and build the hair mass around the skull before gathering loose strands into the rear bun.

  5. 5

Shade under the brow, nose, lower lip, chin, jaw, and bun to clarify planes without tracing the whole face darkly.

Make it easier

Reduce the decisions

Draw only the cranial oval, jaw, feature-level marks, and one continuous forehead-to-chin contour without hair strands.

Make it harder

Transfer the structure

Tilt the profile slightly downward and preserve the feature relationships while rendering neck tendons and overlapping bun strands.

Difficulty rubric

Why this is advanced

The label is an editorial band, not a precise score. It considers the factors below; your feedback is stored locally and does not silently change the rating.

  • profile landmark spacing
  • single contour rhythm
  • skull-to-jaw proportion
  • layered hair direction
